Why I love MaiMai ?

If there’s one thing that instantly makes me happy in Japan, it’s going to an arcade and playing maimai. It’s my favorite rhythm game, and honestly one of the main reasons I enjoy arcade culture so much here.

What I love most is how physical it is. You don’t just stand still pressing buttons — you move, react, stretch, and almost dance around the machine. Every song feels like a little performance. It’s super fun, a bit chaotic sometimes, and really satisfying when you finally clear a difficult chart.

I also love the music selection. There’s a lot of electronic music, anime songs, pop, and original tracks made for the game. It always keeps things fresh, and there’s always a new song or difficulty to try. You can really feel yourself improving over time, which makes it even more addictive.

For me, maimai is also a big part of what makes Japanese arcades special. Arcades here are still really alive and social, and maimai is one of those games that naturally brings attention. People watch, wait their turn, and sometimes even cheer you on. It makes the whole experience more fun and shared.

It’s actually a bit sad that maimai isn’t really known in Europe, because I feel like people would love it there too. It has this perfect mix of music, energy, and friendly competition.

Every time I play, I lose track of time. It’s fun, a bit challenging, and really rewarding when you improve or hit a perfect run. I also really enjoy playing it with someone else, which makes it even more fun and social.

So yeah, maimai is definitely one of my favorite things here in Tokyo. It’s just fun, simple as that.
